Pique Assiette Memory Vessel

Instructor: Tracy Broback

Students who'd like to learn mosaic art in a classic, American folk art approach will enjoy the Pique Assiette Memory Vessel class. Literally translated from French as "stolen plates," pique assiette is a mosaic making process that uses traditional mosaic media, such as household materials and objects commonly found in one's surroundings. The instructor will explain this age-old technique of creating mosaics by assembling shards of broken dishes or crockery, plus the application of specific grouting techniques for three-dimensional and textured surfaces.

Students should bring their own vessel, such as a vase, jug, pot, bottle or bowl. Although many traditional materials will be provided, students are encouraged to bring a variety of personally significant items, including plates, mugs, heirlooms and other bric-a-brac that can be cut and incorporated into their memory vessel design.
