Sessions: 6
Times: Wednesday evenings 6:00 - 8:30pm

Prerequisite: Beginning Glass Mosaics

This intermediate course is designed for continuing glass mosaics students. The instructor will demonstrate the use of a broad range of cutting and shaping tools for glass including scoring tools, breakers, pliers, grinding tools and lens/ circle cutters and demonstrate setting techniques that go beyond the basics.

Instructor will present expanded lecture and demonstration of basic setting styles as well as more sophisticated lay patterning including Italian setting styles and use of andamento, shading and color combining.

A broad range of glass media will also be presented, to give students an idea of how to combine different types of glass into one piece and how to best deal with different size and thickness of tesserae.

Students will be guided through a series of short projects as exercises that will help them put into play the expanded lessons and cutting exercises they will receive in the first two sessions. The remainder of the class will be dedicated to the design and creation of a personal project.

Class will focus on finer setting techniques that will allow students to add dimension and sophistication to their work. Last session may be dedicated to grouting. Some homework will be required.

Students will design and execute a glass mosaic for interior or exterior use on a substrate of their choice using one or more glass media.

Students may bring their own glass cutting tools, or tools will be provided.
