Lightweight Concrete Sculpture for Mosaic
Instructor: Tracy Broback
Concrete mosaic sculptures aren't just for outdoor gardens. Learn how lightweight materials can be used to create interesting shapes and dimensions for small and medium sized sculptures for indoor or outdoor display. In the two-day workshop, Lightweight Concrete Sculpture for Mosaic, students will learn how to use fiberglass mesh and concrete applied to Styrofoam shapes to create lightweight concrete sculptures as a base for mosaics. Each session will include lively lectures and presentations on design and display techniques, along with demonstrations on foam carving tools and their uses. This method is easy to learn, easy to implement and uses readily available materials. There will lots of hand-on work time.
Students will learn how to carve their own sculptural forms out of Styrofoam and/or assemble armatures out of everyday, easy to find objects. Each student will create two small to medium sized sculptures ready for mosaic application and to be displayed in a home or office. Prepare to work outside, get messy and have fun in this mosaic art class! No experience necessary.
