Mosaic Portraiture
Instructor: Delaine Hackney
The Mosaic Portraiture course is a terrific place for learning how to translate a photo into a mosaic work of art that honors or recognizes a special person. Class will include lecture and demonstration on how to translate a photo into a design for mosaics, use mosaic tools and techniques, and incorporate memorabilia into the project. This process involves cutting tesserae in various shapes and sizes to best fit the image and design.
The instructor will work with one-on-one with all students to help them develop a project suited to their skill level. All mosaic class materials will be provided.
Students are encouraged to take to class special trinkets or items of significance to include in their mosaic. Examples include a small paper or photo image to put under glass, beads, personal jewels, colorful bling and other ephemera. Students will create and take home a realistic, texture-rich and colorful 12"x12" mosaic portrait made with ceramic and glass. Each student's portrait is guaranteed to look very much like the subject! No mosaic experience is necessary.
One week prior to the start of the mosaic class, each student will need to email a photo of their subject to the instructor. The general quality of the photo is not important, however a photo that shows good detail of the subject's face is ideal. Profile angles are easiest to work with. The photo should be emailed to Delaine Hackney at delaine@delainemosaic.com.
