One Day Smalti Intensive
Instructor: Dmitry Grudsky
Come learn the beauty of smalti mosaic art in this special, One-Day Smalti Intensive workshop for beginning students. Russian-born mosaic master Dmitry Grudsky will discuss the history of this ancient material that has been used for centuries by people around the world. He will teach how to cut and set richly colored smalti with tools such as a hummer and hardie, as well as with more contemporary wheeled cutters. The resulting effects are beautiful, unique and light-catching. The mosaic class instructor will also explain how smalti is produced and its uncommon setting properties.
Students will practice tool cutting and shaping techniques, as well as learn to design a simple, geometric smalti mosaic. A Smalti Starter pack will be provided to each student. Each student in the mosaic art class will proudly take home a self-created, 6"x6" smalti mosaic panel.
