Pebbles have been an integral part of mosaic art since the beginning of the medium. Their abundance and variety continue to make them a relevant source material for contemporary mosaic projects. Instructor Kevin Carman is a traveling mosaic artist based in Sarasota, Florida. His work can be found in gardens and homes across America.
In this weekend intensive, students will gain an understanding of how to acquire and assemble pebbles on a surface that will be aesthetically leasing as well as utilitarian in design and purpose.
Students will learn how to acquire their material from the urban and natural world around them through observation and collection. They will also learn from simple techniques for shaping and applying the pebbles to a pre-fabricated concrete paver slab. The final produce can be the beginning of a beautiful pathway or a solo addition to a back yard garden.
