This course explores the ancient, precise and time-consuming (though ultimately beautiful) double-reverse Ravenna method. Learn a technique very few people practice! Instructor Jim Bachor is a contemporary mosaic master, working in the Ravenna Method and living in Chicago. His work has been shown nationally and he is a member of the Society of American Mosaic Artists.
In this unique 5- day course, students will proceed step-by-step in the creation of a mosaic masterpiece, made the old fashioned way; from mixing . temporary lime putty base, transferring an ancient or modern design to ultimately setting mosaics in a permanent mortar bed for the folks living a thousand years from now to enjoy!
Studentswill also explore the different characteristics of each material andwhat works best invarious design situations. Instructor will demonstrate and guide students in the many steps required to complete the double reverse method as well as hands on instruction in cutting with hammer and hardie as well as contemporary tools.
