Lynne Chinn is a Modern Master and award winning professional mosaic artist. Her provocative, abstract work has been internationally recognized and she is a frontrunner in the contemporary mosaic scene.

In this first time at IMA intensive class, Visiting Instructor Lynne Chinn will guide students in the creation of an abstract mosaic project that pushes the limits of design and technique.

Students will learn how and where to gather their inspiration for abstraction, as well as some advanced design and color theory ideas to contemplate. New techniques will be shared for the cutting and placement of tesserae to add texture, depth, dimension and excitement to students' work.

Students will be creating a 12" x 12" in class. Designs will be monochromatic (choose one single color - with light, medium and dark tones included). Please bring enough tesserae to cover at least one 12" square, in a variety of materials within your chosen color scheme. You will want to have a good selection of textures, finishes, and values. For instance: consider the different textures and finishes you would have if you brought some vitreous glass, iridized vitreous glass, stained glass, Italian smalti, transparenti, Mexican smalti, Millefiori, marble, porcelain, ceramic, crystals, buttons, sea shells, beach glass and safety glass.

It is not necessary to have them all; in fact, if you have enough variety of values with just one type of tesserae in one color range, enough texture can be created with cuts and andamento to have an interesting piece.

Students should bring the following materials:
Tesserae of your choice--enough to cover one square foot
Scissors
Pencil, eraser
Whatever else you can't live without when you mosaic!

Students may also supplement their materials with a 10% discount in Mosaic Studio Supply

A note from Lynne: "Thank you for considering my class. I am so excited to share some of my experience with you! It will be an intense class and fast-paced--but lots of fun, too."

No scheduled session
