Registration priority and a 10% discount for this class will only be given to students of Sherri's 5- day intensive the preceding week, Concrete Institute. Students of Sherri's Concrete Institute course are encouraged to use the sculptural form they made in class as a substrate for Mosaic for Sculptures. Students who have made sculptural forms in other courses at IMA are encouraged to bring one of those!
You've made your concrete forms, now lets mosaic them! Learn the fundamentals of applying ceramic mosaic to both curvilinear and angular 3-dimensional forms in this intensive two-day class given by nationally known mosaic sculptor and public artist Sherri Warner Hunter.
Techniques for exterior sculptural pieces will be presented in a lecture and demonstration followed by studio time to develop your design and work on your technique.
Special skills presented will include, cutting, shaping and honing pieces to give a smooth finish and safety precautions for mosaic sculpture that people will be touching and interacting with. A presentation and discussion of installation techniques for sculptural pieces will also be included.
A grouting demonstration will be given that addresses grouting three dimensional mosaic forms. Students will complete grouting at home.
*** Sculpture must be of a manageable size, i.e. students must be able to carry it themselves and it has to fit thru the door!
