This is an in-depth course for students who are interested in learning the properties and techniques of glass fusing. Fused glass is made from combinations of compatible glass that are stacked together and fired in a glass kiln so that the pieces melt together to form a permanent piece. Fused glass pieces can be used as tesserae in a mosaic, as accent pieces to be included in larger fields of mosaic, or can stand alone as individual works of art.
Instructor will cover glass compatibility, different types of fusing materials and glass, metal inclusions, how to cut glass and arrange in mosaic-like patterns and how to make individual tesserae. An introduction to using mold materials and creating small three-dimensional pieces will also be covered. Experience with glass mosaics helpful but not necessary.
Continuing students are welcome in this course and may work on projects with guidance of instructor.
Instructor has 25 + years fusing experience.
Students will take home multiple fused glass projects.
