Visiting Artist Series
Michael Kruzich
3-Day Intensive - Direct Method

Instructor: Michael Kruzich

IMA is delighted to host Visiting Artist Michael Kruzich teaching traditional Italian techniques that have been handed down through the ancient and Byzantine masters. With these classical methods, Michael combines contemporary and personal working methods to produce award winning mosaics.

In this workshop, students will receive instruction in the use of hammer and hardie using smalti and mixed marble to hone cutting skills. Students will gain an understanding of andamento basics and, through discussion, be introduced to contrast and color selection. Instructor will also demonstrate different methods of direct setting and finishing techniques.

Each student will work on two mosaics sized 10" x 10". The first will be a reproduction of a small segment of a classical or Byzantine mosaic. The second mosaic will be an exercise in gradient.

Class will include an hour break for lunch each day.

Students taking this class can enjoy a exclusive 20% discount on smalti purchases during class or for a limited time period, online at www.dimosaico.com.
