Journey
I have always had an affinity for the arts, but opted for a business career. After taking classes in Ceramic Tile Making at the Concord Ceramics studio I had a natural curiosity of how the tiles could be used. During this time, a trip to Paris where I was able to view ancient and modern mosaics provided inspiration as well as direction. I was drawn to the tactile quality, expansive nature and durability of mosaics as an art form.

Mosaics
Creating mosaics nurtures my need to have a creative outlet. My greatest challenge as a mosaic artist who has a family and busy full time job is finding the time to make mosaics. I have enjoyed participating in exhibitions at the Institute of Mosaic Art over the last few years and my work has been added to private collections internationally.

Growth

I seek to find my own voice as an artist. The textures, patterns, colors of everyday life and events from my native Kenya are an inspiration to me. I am particularly interested in using indigenous materials in mosaics and am always exploring new uses for materials to incorporate into my work. I am also interested in traditional and contemporary themes from various parts of the African continent.

Direction
In the future I would like to establish a mosaics products and commissions business which would further the growth of a mosaic tradition in Sub Saharan Africa.

IMA
While researching West African Art I came across the amazing work Laurel True has done with youth in Ghana and have since taken several classes and exhibited at IMA. The Ancient Meets Modern class is one that enhanced my technical skills enormously and one I constantly draw from in my work.
