Artist Arlene Elizabeth fuses the revered and ancient arts of origami and mosaic into iconic works addressing issues of the heart. From the trials of modern Tibet and September 11th, to the simple joys of childhood and Julia Child's cooking, her eclectic subjects become vibrant tapestries composed of thousands of painstakingly folded peace cranes.

Institute of Mosaic Art is pleased to co-host an afternoon tour of the unimaginable, indescribable Velocity Circus Museum in San Francisco. IMA founder and director Laurel True has been working her mosaic magic for almost 7 years on an already magical environment that is the straight out of the wild imagination of Gregangelo Herrera, founder of Velocity Circus.

This ongoing mosaic project has been featured in JoAnn Loctov's book, Mosaic Art and Style and features over 20 permanent mosaic installations ranging from jewelry-like setting to a 300+ sq. ft. hidden maze hallway. Features include entire floors, walls, entire dining room, kitchen mural, inset furniture, two bathrooms, exterior environments, ceilings and a UFO landing pad... all in mosaic and all in the context of one of the most breathtaking environments you may ever see!

Laurel True in Ghana
IMA director Laurel True will be returning to West Africa to work with youth on a small mosaic mural in the fishing village of Nungua, Ghana.

True has also been awarded a public art project through the City of Oakland in which she will collaborate with youth in West Oakland and in Ghana on designs for a series of mosaic benches in a public park in West Oakland.

In April True will visit New Orleans again and lead a community project with school children to create a mosaic mural for their school based on the subject of Home.
