Portraiture in Mosaic— Invitational Exhibit
August 1st - 26th, 2007
Reception Thursday, August 2nd 6 - 8p.m.

Exhibit at IMA
Willa Cather at 51 by Jack Dynis (at 51)

Come and savor the wonderful diversity of materials and techniques in this unique exhibit. This exhibit showcases work by students, faculty and other talented artists in an in depth look at how the human (and animal) form can be communicated.

Using a range of traditional and non-traditional mosaic materials and techniques, exhibiting artists deftly describe loved ones, famous icons, pets and even themselves in this exciting show. Piece by piece, the images unfold in sophisticated roman lay patterns as well as in playful and sometimes humorous styles.

Mosaic Lecture and Adventure series
Tile Heritage Foundation and Institute of Mosaic Art Present:

California Tiles: A New Golden Era is Upon Us! Arts & Crafts Principles and the Resurgence of Tile Art
with Riley Doty and Joe Taylor. Saturday, July 21st 7 pm

Exhibit at IMA
Tile by Diane Winters
Much has been written of late concerning the "Golden Era" of tile production, 1910 to 1940, a period of unsurpassed innovation and creativity throughout the state. Historians Riley Doty and Joe Taylor postulate that a second and comparable golden era is currently underway, having taken root in the 1960s in response to a decade or more of aesthetic stagnation, and coming to full bloom in the last ten years. Prepare yourself for a lively and informative discussion prompted by images of significant installations from the Middle Ages to the present day and a selection of art tiles, both contemporary and historic, to enhance this hands-on experience.
