Introduction to Glass Mosaics Students

So much fun stuff going on this summer at IMA! From Darjit Sculpture with internationally known sculptor Brent Sumner to Mosaic Mural Making with Laurel True we have a great lineup of summer classes including lots of classes for beginning mosaic artists and enthusiasts!

We are working on our Fall 08 - Spring 09 Programming now and are looking forward to hosting a wonderful group of Visiting Instructors next year including Emma Biggs from England, Ellen Blakeley, Bill Buckingham, Isaiah Zagar, Laurie Mika, Sonia King and many more.

"Once again, I owe it all to Ashby. Ashby was my partner Greg's dog when we first met almost 20 years ago. I fell in love with Ashby instantly, and because of my affection for him I stuck around long enough to fall in love with Greg, too. When Ashby died in 2000, I wanted to find a way to memorialize him. Artist in Residence

IMA welcomed Oregon mosaic artist Lynn Adamo as Artist in Residence this month. Lynn spent time at IMA working on individual projects and soaking in the Oakland vibe. Great to have you Lynn!

Fundraiser for Todd's Gear

Todd Blair Oakland metal artist, instructor, public artist and longtime friend of IMA director Laurel True was involved in a tragic art accident last fall, which has left him recovering from a traumatic brain injury.

Bay Area Artists and loved ones have banded together to do a large kinetic sculptural wall made up of 25 individual gears, each to be decorated by a different artist. We are seeking sponsorship for each gear in an effort to raise funds to help sustain Todd and his wife financially during this difficult period.

Laurel True will be adorning two 12" twin gears with glass and asphalt mosaic.

The gears will be displayed at Rhythmix Cultural Works in Alameda, CA on July 20th as part of a benefit event.
