Laurel Skye has a penchant for collecting art from around the globe. Among her treasures are elaborately embroidered wall hangings and festival garments from Gujarat and Rajasthan, India. Laurel has created a gorgeous series of mosaics based on these richly embellished tapestries that are a feast for the eye.

Armchair Mosaic Adventure: Nairobi & Kenya
with Laurel True

Laurel True will be presenting images, highlights and stories form her recent trip to Kenya where she did a residency at Kitengela Glass and facilitated a community mosaic mural project at a school outside of Nairobi.

Join Laurel and Erin Rogers, former IMA student who accompanied Laurel and assisted on the project, for a fun filled evening of visual stimulation including photo journal of the magical Gaudi-esque Kitengela Glass in Kenya, photos of the mosaic mural project they did with schoolchildren and a mosaic tour of Nairobi, where there is plenty of mosaic love going on!

Community Built Association
CBA is a wonderful organization of community builders and artists interested in fostering community through the development play spaces, community projects and artworks.

There is a large contingency of mosaic artists involved with this organization who specialize in community mosaics.

CBA will be holding their bi-annual conference this year in New Orleans in May and celebrating 20 years of Community Built!

Institute of Mosaic Art Holiday Mosaic Exhibit

Call for Submissions.

The holidays are just around the corner and IMA is currently having two opportunities to sell and show your work during the holidays at IMA.

For the first opportunity, IMA would like to offer affordable local mosaic art for sale in our main gallery during the holiday season.

Exhibit dates: Nov 18th - Jan 18th
Two and three-dimensional works accepted.

Accepted artists may have up to 4 linear feet of wall space to exhibit their work.

Jingletown Holiday Art Walk

Concurrent with the Holiday Mosaic Exhibit, IMA will be hosting a two-day mosaic art fair during the Jingletown Holiday Art Walk on Saturday and Sunday December 5thth and 6th.

Over 25 artists/ studios in the neighborhood will be open and exhibiting work and we expect a lot of flow.

Artists interested in selling their small craft items at IMA during the Jingletown Holiday Art Walk should contact Laurel at Laurel@insttuteofmosaicart.com by November 5th. Suggested items are small, functional and decorative works priced under $100. IMA will have tables available for display of work and artists may share a table. Space is limited but this is a GREAT way to get your mosaic arts and craft items out there.
