INSTITUTE OF MOSAIC ART GRAND OPENING — FIRST OF ITS KIND MOSAIC CENTER


OAKLAND, CA—September 1, 2005 — On September the 24th, 2005 Institute of Mosaic Art officially opens its doors. Classes have already started and are filling up at this unique mosaic center in Oakland California’s Jingletown Arts District. Institute of Mosaic Art shares a 5000 sq. ft. building with a retail space, Mosaic Studio Supply, and also houses exhibition space, a mosaic resource library and a commissions studio, True Mosaics Studio.

This all-in-one mosaic art center is the first of its kind in the country and provides students, both locals and visitors, with instruction from beginner classes like Mosaic 101 to a variety of Master’s Series courses. The Institute of Mosaic Art is also proud to provide its students the opportunity to study with esteemed visiting artists from around the country.

The grand opening celebration includes an exhibition of mosaic work from faculty, visiting artists and students, a dedication ceremony, open house, preview of upcoming children’s workshop, music from West Africa, food, drink and dancing under the stars. The event is open to the public, those who cannot attend are always welcome to tour the space and browse the colorful inventory at Mosaic Studio Supply during our business hours. Institute of Mosaic Art was founded by Laurel True who has been teaching mosaic courses for 11 years. True is a prolific mosaic artist whose True Mosaic Studios produces community art projects as well as private commissions.
